Monica’s journey in local government began in 2017 when she learned of Salt Lake County’s plan to pave Dimple Dell Park with $4 million in taxpayer funds. Recognizing the threat to one of Sandy’s beloved natural preserves, she took action—spending evenings in the park, talking with residents, and mobilizing the community. With the support of thousands of Sandy residents, she led the successful campaign to reverse the decision and protect Dimple Dell. The red cowboy hat she wore during that fight has remained a symbol of her commitment to grassroots leadership and preserving Sandy’s natural beauty.
She continues to serve as president of the Dimple Dell Preservation Community, organizing the annual Earth Day Cleanup and other conservation efforts. This passion for protecting the city’s character while embracing thoughtful progress has defined her leadership ever since.

With a background in law and public service, Mayor Zoltanski has been a steadfast advocate for public safety, emergency preparedness, and community-first governance. After earning her journalism degree from Marquette University, she attended the University of Toledo College of Law, graduating in 1996. She moved to Utah to begin her legal career as a litigator and later served as a Sandy City prosecutor. Her commitment to law enforcement remains central to her leadership, ensuring first responders have the resources, staffing, and technology needed to keep Sandy safe.
As mayor, she has prioritized fully staffing Sandy’s police and fire departments, investing in emergency response infrastructure, and enhancing community policing. Under her leadership, Sandy has seen a 16% drop in property crime and the construction of Fire Station 31 to serve the growing community.

Raised in Northwest Ohio as the ninth of ten children, Mayor Zoltanski grew up valuing hard work, resilience, and community engagement. A lifelong animal lover and avid outdoorswoman, she chose to make Sandy her home because of its unique blend of neighborhood charm, open spaces, and access to the Wasatch Mountains. Living in Bell Canyon Acres, she enjoys the rare opportunity to care for her own horses and appreciates the city’s strong connection to nature and outdoor recreation.
Beyond public service, she has owned a series of successful local antique retail shops, fueling her love for American history and the West’s pioneering spirit. Today, as Sandy’s mayor, she remains focused on ensuring that the city’s rich heritage, vibrant economy, and strong sense of community thrive for generations to come.
Mayor Monica Zoltanski is a dedicated leader, longtime Sandy resident, and fierce advocate for public safety, smart growth, and community connection. Elected as Sandy City’s first female mayor in 2021, she has worked tirelessly to protect neighborhoods, support local businesses, and enhance the city’s quality of life.
Under her leadership, Sandy has seen a 16% drop in property crime, full staffing of police and fire departments, and the development of key infrastructure projects like the new Fire Station 31. She has also championed economic growth, helping Sandy earn recognition twice in Fortune Magazine as one of the best cities for families to live and welcoming the NHL Utah Hockey Club’s training facility to the city’s thriving sports district.
Beyond Sandy, Mayor Zoltanski serves on statewide boards and committees shaping regional policies, including the Council of Mayors, Council of Governments, and Shelter the Homeless Advisory Board. A former City Council member and open-space advocate, she remains committed to preserving Sandy’s natural beauty while ensuring a strong, prosperous future.
Mayor Zoltanski’s vision is clear: Protect. Connect. Create Opportunity. With a hands-on, community-first approach, she continues to be a vigilant guardian for Sandy’s residents and future.
